Whitehall Printing is committed to producing print which is kinder to the environment.

We recognise that our production facility generates waste and have developed ways to tackle the problem, minimising the environmental impact of our business.

We also encourage our clients to reduce their carbon footprint by offering a range of recycled and sustainably sourced papers and waste-saving options.

Whitehall Printing is proud to pledge corporate sponsorship to support the local tree-planting charity, the Forest of Avon.

Inks

We use vegetable based inks as standard rather than mineral oil based inks. Onsite mixing technology means the amount of wasted ink after any given job is close to zero.

Paper

100% of our paper off-cuts, approximately three tons a week, are collected and recycled by Biffa Waste Recycling Ltd.

We encourage our clients to use eco-friendly papers wherever possible (see our range of papers below).

Chemicals

Waste chemistry is removed by J&G Metal Environmental Ltd, a specialist waste licensed contractor.

Plastics & Metals

Our studio communicates with the presses digitally, negating the need for film. 100% of our metallic printing plates are either re-used or fully recycled

Technology

Our brand new Heidelberg presses use CIP3 technology which help reduce 'make ready' waste by a huge 85%.

Installation of a state-of-the-art MIS system has meant that we can email quotes, PDF proofs and purchase orders over the internet, thus reducing paper waste.

Packaging

Where possible and effective, orders are boxed in cardboard rather than plastic casing. Unused or excess casing is donated to a local art charity or a local Primary School.

Even in this era of e-communication, there are few ways to deliver messages more effectively than through tangible, printed materials. By choosing a printer with an environmental policy like Whitehall's, you immediately reduce you organisation's impact. But, we encourage you to take your company's commitment further by selecting recycled and sustainably sourced paper stocks.

Contrary to popular belief, this does not have to involve an increase in price or a compromise on quality.

We have devised the following guide to help you choose your paper. If you would like further advice or to request samples please contact us.

Using recycled papers reduces landfill and does not harm forests at all. Recycled paper does not contain virgin wood and the process of making paper from recycled pulp uses fewer resources such as fossil fuels and water.

The cost of recycled grades has, and is, falling and many brands demand no premium at all. There is little difference in print quality when printing onto recycled grades.

We only recommend NAPM approved sheets in this section which contain a minimum of 75% recycled fibre.

If a suitable recycled stock is not available, we recommend opting for a paper produced from sustainably managed forests. These forests have been grown for the purpose of paper production

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) trademark indicates that wood used to make the paper comes from a forest which is well managed according to strict environmental, social and economic standards. The FSC is a non-profit association whose membership comprises environmental and social groups and progressive forestry and wood retail companies, working in partnership to improve forest management worldwide.
